Winter Garden

It has been a while since my last post so happy new year and I hope you are all ok. It’s been a crazy year with everything that has been going on in the world despite that we are looking forewards to the hopeful year ahead.

I just haven’t quite found that rhythm and feel like I’m always trying to catch up but I have been working hard with my course, which is why it has felt a little chaotic recently. We can only do what we can. Wake up every morning with open eyes to a new day. It’s important to remind ourselves to slow down and breathe, as you watch your breath cloud in an exhale, you take that moment to slow down. Flowers don’t force themselves to bloom during winter so you shouldn’t force yourself.

Winter can seem a very sombre time of year, nevertheless, nature is beautiful. When winter gets you down, grab your camera and go outside. Your winter blues will melt away…after you get home and defrost.

Which is exactly what I did.

It was the most magical morning; I woke up with the rising sun, and the crescent moon in the sky. I hadn’t noticed the ground covered in crystals at this point when I took the photo below, but I already knew it was a beautiful day by the contrasting colour of the sky. The backlit silhouette trees turned white with the light brightening. It was the morning shining in my eyes, that made me squint and I saw the ground sparkle as if I’d woken up surrounded by stolen diamonds, that I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Before the blanket of frost melted away, I put on my big coat, hat scarf and gloves, grabbing my camera on the way out. (Mind you I was still in cosy pyjamas, that’s how fast I wanted to get outside.) Birds were waking up and the robin came to see me. I managed to record his song and take a few clips. This photo of him was the winning shot. (Above)

The Snow Queen is a figure from my childhood I always imagine during this season, with the tips of her frosty fingers and ice-cold breath enchanting the natural kingdom. Little swords of ice coated the leaves, not to be touched by mortal fingers.

I hope you enjoy looking through the photos I took on this frosty morning and they give you a sense of calm in your day. I really enjoyed capturing these photos to share. Just slowing down to appreciate the beauty of ice.

The ended just as beautifully as it started. Warm orange light filled the sky. Casting the light on the tress created a beautiful atmosphere.
