Frequently Asked Questions

What materials do you use?

I am a big fan of the look and feel of traditional media, such as gouache, pens and pencils. I’m always experimenting with new materials. My favourite staples are:

The texture of the paper is very important. :
Paint: Mostly Winsor and newton designers, and a few schmincke colours
Pencils: Faber castell polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance pencils.
Water-Soluble Crayons: Caran d'Ache Neocolor II. These were a big surprise to me!
Paper: Langton, Bristol Paper or Arches. The texture of the paper is very important.

I then like to refine my work digitally sometimes for projects. For a digital project process, I will draw everything detailed with pen or pencil on paper. Scan the drawing(s) and then finish with colour in photoshop and enhance the traditional feeling with self-made textures.

How did you learn to draw?

Primarily it comes down to practice, trial and error. As a young girl, I was always drawing flowers from my grandma’s garden. I repeatedly drew different angles of beautiful things I found as a reference. It was clear from a young age drawing was my strength. I always was wanting to do creative projects in school, it was a hobby that I never wanted to give up. Now I’ve grown up I realised I can make it my job as well. I studied illustration at university and am always still learning.

What inspires your work?

I get inspired by a lot of things I’ve encountered in my everyday life. I will have a blog post up soon on this topic, all about what inspires my art as well as what motivates me in life. But to answer it simply, my passion for nature keeps the cogs turning. Colour, texture, shape, and biological science of nature. I go on walks, take lots of photos and collect leaves etc. I try to surround myself with like-minded people who are also very inspiring.

Where are you based?

I currently live in the UK south-east countryside, close to the sea. The landscape here is very beautiful from rolling fields to the flat marshes and woodlands.

What is your name?

My full name is Verity Faye Warner-Moulding. To take up more space outside the box. It’s long.
